What's Good Today (3/22)

March 25, 2018

What’s Good Today?

With all the troubles and turmoils that we face every day, it’s better to look at what is going right. ATG ignores the negative noise and hones in on what we really want to hear about; the good stuff. There’s a lot to be excited about, so let’s take a look.

NEW MUSIC ALERT: A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie ft. Tory Lanez: Best Friend

Oh yeah we got a banger alert. Tory Lanez just cannot stop! The Canadian rapper recently delivered his sophomore album: Memories Don’t Die, and it was a huge hit. Well, he’s not done. Tory teams up with Boogie in a melodic banger. I don’t know about you guys but Tory is one of the best feature artists out there right now. Go listen to this and show your friends before they show you. This one will be around for a bit.

College Basketball Sweet 16

It has been an absolutely wild college basketball tournament so far; so much so that ESPN had to make a “second chance” bracket because no one’s is even close. Loyola, UMBC, and Marshall are just some of the schools that have turned this bracket upside down.

With the Sweet Sixteen starting today, here are my picks for the four games.

The Loyola train keeps cruising. Give me Loyola over Nevada in a close game decided in the final minutes.

The Wolverines go home. Texas A&M straight up dominated the defending champs this weekend. Robert Williams and the rest of A&M are ready to show they aren’t done. I think they beat Michigan by at least ten points.

Kentucky murders Kansas State. This is blowout pick for the day. Kentucky has been absolutely cruising in their last 12-15 games. This is a new team from the start of the season, and they were my championship pick. I’m sticking with it.

Florida State upsets Gonzaga. I am officially a believer in Florida State. I had them losing to Mizzou in the first round and Xavier if they made it. Well, now both of those teams are out and the Seminoles are standing strong. They’ve officially garnered my support.

Dwight Howard!?!

Yeah, he’s back to making news, and this time it is for a very good reason. That man just became to first player since 2010 and second in 36 years to collect over 30 points and 30 rebounds in a game. In a 111-105 victory over the Brooklyn Nets, Howard dropped 32 points and 30 boards.

It’s been a disappointing last couple of years for Howard, but the big man showed he still has plenty of life left. Could we see Howard play for a contender in the future? Maybe, but for now we need to talk about the present. That was a beastly performance that we might not see for another 8-10 years. Or we could see it tomorrow, you really never know with the talent that the NBA possesses.

Either way, shoutout to Dwight.

One Week Till Baseball

Thank the lords. Baseball is about to be back, and that is great news for everyone. The MLB offseason was one of the more interesting ones in recent memory. The defending champion Houston Astros are back and arguably better. Their lineup of potent offense is just crazy. Pitchers are going to crap down their leg when they have to face Altuve, Springer, Bregman, and Correa, all who could be due for even better seasons than the last.

The freakin’ Yankees are more back than ever. They just added the most feared hitter in baseball to their already stacked roster. Giancarlo Stanton will join Aaron Judge, Gary Sanchez, Greg Bird, Didi Gregorius, and Aaron Hicks to form the new Murderer’s Row. It is not unrealistic to think the Judge-Stanton-Sanchez trio could hit 150 home runs. That’s pretty scary for other teams.

The Boston Red Sox made some moves of their own, and the AL East could feature the best playoff race this season. JD Martinez joins Mookie Betts, Andrew Benintendi, Xander Bogaerts, Hanley Ramirez, Dustin Pedroia, and Rafael Devers. If Betts can return to MVP form and Benintendi can build on his 20/20 rookie season, the Red Sox could be one of the best teams in the league this season. Their biggest x-factor is X himself. Bogaerts needs to find the consistency to put up at least a .300 average and 20 home runs. He has the skill, he just hasn’t been able to put it together.
