The Value Of Time

September 5, 2018

Time is very valuable and often something that gets taken for granted. Why is that? Do we really not have enough time in the day or are we just not using it correctly? Maybe we get sidetracked watching a Netflix show that took us far beyond binge watching or wasted too much time on one singular task. In this article I'll talk about the importance of time and how you can get the most out of your day.

Importance

Time is arguably one of the most important assets in life. You can't get it back. You can always get money back, but you can't get time back (Unless you have a time machine that I don't know about). Elon Musk describes the importance of time perfectly, "Work like hell. I mean you just have to put in the time like 80-100 hour weeks. This improves the odds of success. If other people are putting in 40-hour work weeks and you're putting in 100-hour workweeks, then even if you're doing the same thing, you will achieve in 4 months what it takes them to achieve in a year." Now I'm not saying by any means you should work that crazily during a week, but It puts things into perspective of how you can essentially buy your future self time. If you can learn how to save time by multi-tasking, being more efficient, and valuing your time better... you'll be in a much better position.

"I Don't Have Enough Time"

Do you not have enough time or is that an excuse?"With the right mindset you can do anything. The only thing holding you back from achieving what you want in life is the excuses you make along the way." You have plenty of time. I try to make sure that I read everyday... no excuses. I think reading is very important for your brain, so I make it engraved into my everyday routine. This doesn't just apply to reading, but anything in life. If you WANT to make time for something or someone, you will. So my everyday task I try to accomplish is to read something to better myself. This could come at any part of the day. Lets say I have the busiest day of my life... I will manage to find a part of my day to read. Maybe I have a family function all day and something going on at night, but in the morning I manage to make it to the gym. Well what am I doing while on the bike at the gym? If I spend 30 minutes on the bike at the gym, that's also 30 minutes I could be spending reading at the same time. Multi-tasking is so valuable. I can accomplish exercise for not only my body, but my brain as well. This is something that people don't often realize. You may not realize you can accomplish another task while riding the bike at the gym, or while drinking your coffee, or whatever it may be. Get into the habit of pushing yourself to do more and it will become easy for you.

Being More Efficient

Another way to better your time is to be more efficient. In some situations you can't always multitask and may have to pick between two variables. What's more important? You can make this decision through several different ways such as using pros/cons, sequence, or one of my personal favorites in business- cost benefit analysis. The cost benefit analysis is also perfect for anything in life. Is the benefit I'm receiving outweigh my cost of not only money but time. Always value your time, you only get so much of it. For example, something not relating to money. I could be doing a good deed for someone that takes me a long time.. but the value of that good deed for me outweighs anything else I could be doing with that time. It's all about how you value it.

Quotes About Time

"Time is what we want most, but value the worst."

"Time has a wonderful way of showing us what matters."

"Time you enjoy wasting is not wasted."

"You will never find time for anything. If you want to make time, you'll make it."

"Your time is limited. Don't waste it living someone else's life."

"Life is short. There is no time to leave important words unsaid."
