The Beatles. ACDC. Ozzy Osbourne. Post Malone. Lil Uzi Vert. Lil Peep. XXXTentacion.
Names that even three years ago would have never been mentioned in the same sentence. Why are they being mentioned now? Not to say that Post Malone is at the iconic level that The Beatles or ACDC were, but why are they becoming increasingly similar?
As one who listens to essentially all the genres available to our generation, it’s clear that the line between Hip-Hop/Rap and Rock have been blurred. With artists such as Lil Uzi Vert drawing inspiration in their music from Marilyn Manson, the music that we hear today is beginning to sound much less like the traditional hip hop that we’ve known to date.
Who’s complaining, not us. Aside from some new age rappers seemingly gaining fame from their Instagram profiles rather than their music… it’s going to be interesting where Rock and Rap end up in the next few years as the two genres seem to be drawing styles from each other and evolving a new sound that you gotta either love or hate.
We here at Ton of Musik are saying, “Keep it up.”
